Walking sticks are useful tools to have when walking and hiking. Primarily walking sticks are used for maintaining balance, maneuvering, and reducing stress on the back, knees, legs, and feet. Walking sticks should extend approximately six to nine inches above the elbow. If you can't find a walking stick that is a perfect fit, it is better to select one that is slightly taller than one that is slightly shorter because you can place your hand further down the stick on a longer one but a shorter one will be uncomfortable to use and provide less support.
